Dj RyB's Favorite Kicks (Just a Sample)
ACROCalypse Now
It's about time to address a new fashion trend that is evidently sweeping the nation...or at least Massachusetts. I'm talking about Crocs. You know, those absurd, obnoxious rubber shoes that you've been seeing everywhere from the streets of Boston to your grandma's house. Even if you try to ignore them, you can't...because they come in every hideous flourescent color you can think of.
Entourage 33 - The Hunt for Fukijamas
The idea for this rant was influenced by Episode 33. A main stream hit show finally decided to focus on one of my true passions and one of the main topics of Thirsty13...The sneaker game! Most people look at me like I am crazy when I tell them how many shoes I have in my collection. I even have girls telling me I have more shoes than they do and I'm the one that's crazy (ya, OK). I don't know what it is, but most likely it was the influence of Nike and the man, Michael Jordan.

Air Jordan 4 Retro - White/Metallic Silver
Release Date: 06/24/2006 (?)
I picked these up when I was in NYC. I wasn't even sure if I liked them at first. They are almost too white. I feel like I can't even wear them for fear of scuffs and smudges. These have been in the box since I bought them. They have definitely grown on me as I peek at them from time to time. These are the first pair of 4's that I have ever owned! I actually wanted to get the Mist Blue/University Blue colorway (right) but they were out of my size! I was heated but these are definitely a nice fallback.
Air Jordan 5 Retro - White/Sport Royal/Stealth
Release Date: 10/21/2006
These were going to be a nice little birthday present for myself. The problem was I had to wait for my next check to make sure I could handle the full $135 price tag. I saw these at least twice when hitting the mall for lunch and I thought I waited too long when I finally went back ready to buy almost 9 days later. I didn't see them on the front display as they had been but I went inside and saw 2 more being displayed. I assumed they were the only two pairs remaining but I asked for my size 13 anyway. It turns out they had only 3 pairs left but size 13 was on of them. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord...Or something like that.
Air Jordan 4 Retro - White/Military Blue-Neutral Grey
Release Date: 09/09/2006
I got lucky finding these. I was on my way to the food court for lunch on a Wednesday! I thought that there was no way these were still available after the Saturday morning release. Luckily, as the crispy white, grey and military blue caught my eye and I made a beeline to the register. You have any 13's left? I almost had a heart attack waiting for that dude to come from the back room. These have been one of the most coveted and rarest of the original Jordan 4 colorways. I probably shouldn't have been buying them, as I was pretty close to maxing out the credit card, but I had to do it! I was never able to purchase the original Jordan 4's back in 1989. I was about 11 years old and my parents weren't having it with the close to $100 sticker price and my feet growing by the day. I am catching up for lost time...
Nike Dunk Low CL - White/Blue/Cement Medium Grey
Release Date: 10/7/2006 (?)
I definitely made an effort to watch the release date of these beauties. It's funny that I can't even remember what it was now! Ha. Anyway, these are one of a few Air Jordan inspired Nike Dunks. I love the sharp blue with a subtle bit of red in the Nike stitching on the tongue and back heel. The grey snakeskin styling is hot as hell and make these Dunks stand out even more without being too over the top. These are actually my first pair of Dunks. Most of the colors out there are a little too over the top for me but these were just right. Any time I have seen a pair of Dunks that were more my speed I ended up buying another pair of Jordans or I waited until it was too late. I was surprised these were still available because I thought they would be fairly sought after. I got them at retail for $85 and I am already seeing them selling for $165 on some sneaker sites.
Oooh Weeee! I got myself some crispy new Jordans! Let me just tell you that I have been waiting for these two versions of the Jordan V to drop for a long time. When these were originally released in 1990, I was in 8th grade. A bunch of my friends copped them for the basketball season and I had to have them. I remember playing HORSE against my Dad during the summer and making a bet. If I won, I got the Jordans. If he won, I had to cut the grass. Well, I won but I never got those kicks. I ended up with a nice pair of Nike Air Flight 90s which ended up being one of the most comfortable shoes I've ever had, but that's a different story.
When I heard that these were being re-released this winter, I had to make sure I saved up. These wouldn't be my first Jordan Vs, though. The original white with red and black sole colorway was actually re-released in 2001 (I believe). I got those in a size 12, even though I wear a size 13, because they were the last pair available. I had to have them that bad! Luckily they fit decently and they stretched slightly with some wear. Now that I look back, I kind of wish I hadn't done that.
I needed to get my two other favorite colorways to complete my collection. These would be the all black leather with the grey reflective tongue and the white with with hints of black and red sole with the #23 stitched in the side. I missed out on the white version's in-store release, unfortunately. I ended up finding a pair on EBay and even though it was a little more than I wanted to pay, it was still worth it. Coming home from work one day and having them on my doorstep was one of the best surprises ever. I almost forgot I had bought them. I'm an idiot...
